K-State Tandem Captures Ole Miss Fall Classic Doubles Title

OXFORD, Miss. - The Kansas State women’s tennis team captured its first title of the fall season, winning the doubles Blue draw at the Ole Miss Fall Classic at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Two K-Staters have also advanced through to the finals of two separate singles draws.
The doubles pair of senior Judith Diaz and junior Jessica Simosa defeated Nicola Slater and Ali Blackett of Southern Mississippi, 8-5 to win the title. The Wildcats reached the championship match with an 8-3 victory in the morning semifinal over Ilona Somers and Mimi Renaudin of host Ole Miss.
In the doubles consolation draw championship, senior Maria Rosenberg and freshman Olga Klimova defeated Anje Schmidt and Heather Kelley of Centenary, 8-2.
In singles action, freshman Tamar Kvaratskhelia continued her success from the opening day, by reaching the finals of the singles White draw. Kvaratskhelia, playing in her first collegiate tournament, defeated Daliny Sithimorada of Louisiana-Monroe, 6-3, 6-2. Kvaratskhelia will face Tennessee Tech’s Margot Carter in the 10:00 a.m. final. Also advancing to a singles final was Diaz, who reached the singles Red draw final with a walkover.
The Wildcats will have two athletes in action on the main courts of Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Kvaratskhelia/Carter match.
