Massey Named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week

DALLAS, Texas Kansas State senior forward Jeremiah Massey was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week on Monday after he averaged 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in wins over Iowa State and Missouri.
Massey, who twice earned the conference Rookie of the Week honor on Feb. 9 and March 8 of last season, earns the accolade for the second time this season after winning the honor on Dec. 27.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Massey averaged 20.0 points on 51.9 percent shooting (14-of-27) with 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in helping Kansas State to a pair of wins this past week over Iowa State and Missouri. He also connected on 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free throw line. He came through when it mattered most for the Wildcats, as he scored 34 of his 40 points for the week in the second half on 57.1 percent shooting from the field.
Massey posted his third double-double of the season in a 63-51 home win over Iowa State last Wednesday, as he tallied 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting with a team-high 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in a season-high 38 minutes. He scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half on 6-of-8 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws. Massey also went 9-of-11 from the free throw line. It was his second straight 20-point outing and his seventh of the season. Massey carried the Wildcats to their first win in Columbia, Mo., in nearly 20 years on Saturday, as he posted 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting with a team-high seven rebounds. He has now scored in double figures in 32 of 45 career games at Kansas State, including 14 of 17 contests this season.
The team leader in both scoring (16.9) and rebounding (6.2), Massey also paces the squad in seven other categories, including field goals made (96), free throws (95) and free throw percentage (80.5). On the season, he is averaging 16.9 points on 49 percent shooting (96-of-196) with 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 assists and 0.4 blocks in 31.2 minutes per game. Massey ranks among the top 15 in the Big 12 in five categories, including fifth in free throw percentage, seventh in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage, 13th in offensive rebounds (2.65), 14th in steals and 15th in rebounding.
Coming off its first series sweep of Missouri since 1984, Kansas State (13-4, 3-3 Big 12) is off to its best start since the 1995-96 team also started at 13-4 and are one win away from equaling their win total of last season (14-14). In addition, the Wildcats have now won three of their last four conference games for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
K-State continues its two-game road swing on Wednesday, when it travels to Stillwater, Okla. to face ninth-ranked Oklahoma State (15-3, 5-2 Big 12) at Gallagher-Iba Arena beginning at 6 p.m.
The conference also announced that Taj Gray was named the Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
