After a week off, both teams will see their first racing action since the Oct. 1 meet in
“It was a very productive week for the most part,” said Smith. “Everyone seemed to train well. I would expect a full lineup for our men’s team this weekend, and about the same lineup we have been running for our women’s team.”
The men’s team should once again be led by senior Joe Moore who turned in a 31st-place finish at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree two weeks ago. Behind
“Alex (Umberger) is running at a high level with the very little background he has,” commented Smith. “If he continues to run as well as he has, he has a shot at finishing in the top 40 or top 45 at the conference meet.”
Still battling nagging injuries, the women’s team will again look to a pair of mid-distance runners to step up this weekend. Sophomore Morgan Bonds and freshman Emily Dittemore ran in the third and fourth positions for their team two weeks ago. Their performances will likely define where the women’s team will place this weekend.
The atmosphere surrounding the Chile Pepper Invitational will be something that the K-State teams haven’t seen yet this season.
“This is going to be a bigger and better meet than we’ve been at so far,” said Smith. “
Results from the Chile Pepper Invitational will be posted at www.k-statesports.com as soon as they become available.
