Wildcats set for ITA Central Region

MANHATTAN, Kan. - After two quizzes, the Wildcats get a chance to show what they’ve got in the biggest test of the fall, the ITA Regional Tournament. This year’s tournament is held at the
THE FIELD: The entire central region will be on hand. Play begins with singles pre-qualifying on Wednesday. On Thursday the main draw for both singles and doubles will begin. The tournament’s championship matches will be played on Sunday.
THE LINEUP: Singles: 1. Jessica Simosa (4-2); 2. (95) Tamar Kvaratskhelia (4-2); 3. Katerina Kudlackova (5-1); 4. Fernanda Da Valle (4-2); 5. Maria Perevoschikova (3-0). Doubles: 1. Katerina Kudlackova/Tamar Kvaratskhelia (5-4); 2. Maria Perevoschikova/Jessica Simosa (0-0). K-State intended to take six singles players and a third doubles team but Viviana Yrureta was a late scratch due to illness.
LAST TIME OUT: Against a deeper, more competitive field at the Indiana Hoosier Classic the Wildcats continued to pile up wins. The singles players combined to go 15-9 (.625) and sent a Wildcat to the top-4 of all five singles flights. Freshman Maria Perevoschikova was 3-0 in her first action of the season and the champion of her singles flight. In doubles, Fernanda Da Valle and Viviana Yrureta went 3-1 to improve their season record to 5-2. The Wildcats are 28-16 in singles matches this season (.636).
FEATURED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Despite her quiet demeanor, Freshman Maria Perevoschikova is making noise with her play on the court.
