ROGERS, Ark. Despite shooting the third-lowest score of the day, the
Kansas State women’s golf team was unable to move up at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational on Tuesday and finished the tournament in ninth place. Four shots from tying for fifth, the Wildcats carded rounds of 306-315-298919. Sophomore Kali Quick led the Wildcats, tying for 16
th place with rounds of 75-76-76227.
Host Arkansas led the 16-team field again through the third round, and finished its home tournament with scores of 291-299-286876. Four Lady Backs placed in the top five, with Ashley Medders taking the title competing as an individual. Medders finished the tournament four-under par, shooting 72-71-69212. Kansas’ Amanda Costner rounded out the top five, finishing fourth.
After struggling in the second round, head coach Kristi Knight was impressed with the scores in the final round.
“The second round hurt us,” Knight said. “I was proud of the way they responded today. We picked up an important win against Wisconsin and Michigan. It was a nice way to finish a tournament.”
For the Wildcats, Quick finished the tournament with her second top-20 finish and her low-54-hole score of the season. Junior Helene Robert was the lone Wildcat to improve her score every round of the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. After shooting an 81 in the opening round, Robert improved to a 76 in the second and a 72 in the final round. Robert finished the tournament tied for 20th, her third top-20 finish in four tournaments this fall.
Two other Wildcats improved from their second-round score. Michelle Regan and Hailey Mireles both shot a third-round score of 75. Regan finished the tournament tied for 41st, shooting rounds of 76-83-75234. Mireles tied for 46th with rounds of 77-84-75236.
