K-State Ends Three-Match Losing Skid, 6-1

MANHATTAN - Kansas State women’s tennis broke a three-match losing streak as they defeated Utah 6-1 Friday at Ahearn Fieldhouse.
K-State (2-3) jumped out to a quick start against Utah (7-4) as all three of the Wildcats’ doubles pairs won. In the number one doubles match, Maria Rosenberg and Tamar Kvaratskhelia defeated Utah’s Elizabeth Ferris and Allison Hansen 8-4. The pair of Rosenberg and Kvaratskhelia, ranked 60th in the nation, improved their season record to 8-3, including a 4-1 mark in the spring. K-State’s duo of Jessica Simosa and Judith Diaz knocked off Cinthia Saucedo and Emily Kwok of Utah, also by the final score of 8-4. With the win, the team of Simosa and Diaz remain unblemished on the season, now standing at 6-0. In the final match of doubles play, Tereza Prochazkova and Fernanda De Valle topped Whitney Eber and Jen Wencel of Utah 8-1.
In singles play, (109) Rosenberg took out Elizabeth Ferris 6-2, 6-4. Rosenberg, now carrying a 16-8 record on the season, collected her 72nd career win, needing only six more wins to hold the Kansas State career singles win record. Kvaratskhelia snapped her two-match losing streak as she defeated Whitney Eber 7-5, 6-0. Kvaratskhelia now has a team-leading 18 match victories in singles play on the season.
K-State’s number three singles player Simosa outlasted Emily Kowk 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. The Wildcats also picked up singles victories from Prochazkova, as she defeated Cinthia Saucedo 6-1, 6-4, and from Da Valle, who topped Wencel 6-2, 6-4. Both Prochazkova and Da Valle broke their two-match losing streaks, and also collected their second match wins of the season.
K-State will have a quick turnaround as they host Southwest Missouri State Saturday, Feb. 26 at Ahearn Fieldhouse. The match begins at noon.
