MANHATTAN - Kansas State women’s tennis attempted to end a two-match home losing skid on Saturday at Washburn Tennis Facility, when 31st-ranked Texas A&M paid a visit. However, the afternoon belonged to the Aggies as they took the match 7-0.
The 75th-ranked Wildcats (8-10 overall, 3-7 Big 12) were swept in both doubles play and singles play by the Aggies (13-10 overall, 7-2 Big 12). In singles play, K-State saw the 13-match win streak of freshman Tamar Kvaratskhelia ended by Lauren Walker, 6-2, 6-2. The streak is the longest by a freshman in school history. At the number three position, junior Jessica Simosa had her four-match string halted by 96th-ranked Anna Lubinsky, 6-2, 6-4.
It is the first time K-State has been blanked at home since April 18, 2003, when Texas A&M dropped the Wildcats, 7-0.
Kansas State will honor its two seniors on Sunday, Judith Diaz and Maria Rosenberg, before the match with 10-ranked Texas. Match time is set for 10 a.m. and admission is free.
