Wildcats Place 15 on Big 12 Academic Teams

DALLAS - The Big 12 Conference named 285 student-athletes to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams on Tuesday. Kansas State placed 15 of its student-athletes on the list.
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, first team members consist of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Among the honorees, three Wildcats were named to the All-Big 12 Academic First Team with a 4.0 grade point average for the academic year: junior Wally Walstrom in Kinesiology, senior Ashleigh Halderman in Biology and redshirt freshman Laci Heller in Feed Science Management.
K-State male athletes who made the All-Big 12 Academic First Team were: junior Wojciech Borysiewicz (Social Science), junior Coby Cost (Industrial Engineering), junior Micha Gamper (Architecture), junior Charlie Robben (Construction Science), junior Chrisian Smith (Business Administration), senior Trevor Smith (Marketing/Agricultural Economics), senior Erik Sproll (Kinesiology), senior Tarl Vetter (Chemical Engineering) and Walstrom.
K-State female athletes who reached the All-Big 12 Academic First Team were: senior Trisha Culbertson (Biological and Agricultural Engineering), Halderman, Heller, senior Cate Holston (Business Administration), and sophomore Ashleigh Rogers (Dietetics). The only athlete to reach the All-Big 12 Academic Second Team for the Wildcats was senior Chaytan Hill (Sociology/Criminology).
The student-athletes on the academic squads will participate in the 2005 Big 12 Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning Friday at R.V. Christian Track Complex in Manhattan.
