Wildcats drop season finale, 3-1, to No. 5 Huskers
May 22, 2005 | Baseball
With the loss, the Wildcats finish the 2005 season with a 30-25 overall mark and an 8-19 mark in Big 12 play. The 30 wins mark just the third time in the last 14 years for a Wildcat team to hit 30 wins and the eight conference wins equal the total amount from the 2003 and 2004 seasons combined.
Junior Adam Cowart (7-4) suffered the hard-luck loss Sunday after giving up three runs on six hits over 7.0 innings. Cowart gave up single runs in three innings and struck out six on the day. But, Kroenke was the difference as he improved to 6-2 after giving up just one run on three hits in 9.0 innings while striking out a career-high eight Wildcats.
After the Huskers went up 3-0 after another two-out single, K-State got on the board as Joe Roundy blasted his 10th homer of the season, a solo shot to right, to bring the Cats to within two at 3-1.
The Wildcats brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth as Brandon Farr was hit by a pitch with two outs. But Jared Goedert, who was 2-for-4 on the day, grounded to short to end the game.
