MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State used a pair of second half runs to secure its 11th straight home win on Friday night against Santa Clara, 76-52, before a season-high 4,734 fans in Bramlage Coliseum.
Kansas State (9-1) was led by sophomores Marlies Gipson and Danielle Zanotti with 18 and 11 points, respectively. To go along with her game-high in points, Gipson also snared a game-high nine rebounds. Zanotti tallied her career-high 11, on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field including a career-high 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point line.
Senior Claire Coggins chipped in with her 47th career double figure scoring night with 13 points, while sophomore guard Shalee Lehning was a statistical marvel with nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds and a block.
Off the bench, K-State received a strong effort from junior Shana Wheeler with eight points, eight rebounds and five blocks. The Wildcats outscored the Broncos bench, 16 to 12.
Santa Clara (6-5) was led by Ashley Gonnerman with 13 points and five rebounds, while Kasey Monteith added 10 points.
K-State held a 38-28 advantage at intermission and quickly asserted itself in the second half with a 17-11 run to open the second stanza. The run opened with a pair of Zanotti three-point connections and pushed the lead to 55-39 with 11:53 to play.
The Broncos were able to close the gap to 55-41 with 9:41 to play, but the Wildcats went on a 16-3 run over the final 3:27 to secure the win.
The Wildcats shot 45.5 percent from the field, including a season-high 7-of-21 from beyond the arc. K-State also held a significant advantage on the boards at 45 to 32.
Kansas State will return to action in Bramlage on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. against Weber State.
