Wildcats Win Morning Show, Qualify for Zone Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State equestrian team captured the final Hunt Show of the season and then won the Regional Championship Horse Show for the English riders Saturday at Fox Creek Stables.
K-State was the High Point Team with 45 points in the morning show, defeating the Reserve High Point Team Northern Illinois, which tallied 28 points.
"This morning we had a great show. We received first and second place in seven out of 14 classes. We almost had a perfect score," head coach Teresa Slough said. "For the regional show we got many girls to qualify for the Zone Championships in April and I am very happy for all our girls that will be advancing. As a whole I think we had a good day."
K-State’s Whitney Snyder was the High Point Rider, while the Reserve High Point Rider was Kat Sonpal of Washington University.
In the Regional Show, K-State was again the High Point Team, followed by Northern Illinois as the Reserve High Point Team.
Casey Finnell was the Regional High Point Hunt Seat Rider, while the Regional Reserve High Point Rider was Alex Szarmach of Northern Illinois.
Kansas State Totaled 18 first-place finishers between the two shows, including Whitney Snyder in Open Equitation Over Fences Section A and Open Equitation on the Flat Section B, Hannah Schroller in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences Section A, Summer Hammil in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences Section B, Macie Ayers in Novice Equitation Over Fences Section A, Stephanie Bell in Novice Equitation Over Fences Section B, Erin Paulsen in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter Section A, Erin Bodlack in Beginning Walk/Tort/Canter, Megan Westberg in Novice Equitation on the Flat Section A and Novice Equitation over Fences, Lianna Bodlack in Walk/Trot Equitation and Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter Section B, Dresden Sommer in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat Section B, Nicole Harkness in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter Section C, Macie Ayers in Novice Equitation on the Flat Section B, Tiffany Bowles in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, Juliann Todd in Novice Equitation on the Flat and Lindsay Cook in Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation.
Riders in the Regional Competition today had the opportunity to qualify for IHSA Zone Championships by finishing in the top two spots in their respective classes.
The Wildcat riders that accomplished that today were, Summer Hamil in Intermediate Equitation over fences, Megan Westberg and Stephanie Bell in Novice Equitation over fences, Tiffany Bowles and Jenae Grossart in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, Juliann Todd and Megan Westberg in Novice Equitation on the Flat, Lindsay Cook in Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation and Lianna Bodlack and Erin Bodlack in Walk/Trot Equitation.
The Kansas State western squad will take center stage tomorrow, when the Wildcats ride in day two of the IHSA Regional Competition.
