In the first game of the doubleheader, K-State jumped out to a 10-1 lead after scoring in each of the first four innings to take a commanding lead. Starter Chase Mitchell (2-0) battled through 6.0 innings to win his second game of the year. The senior scattered three earned runs on 10 hits on the day while striking out four. Brett Ames and Daniel Edwards threw the final three innings to preserve the win.
Cris Tapia led the 15-hit attack for the Wildcats with a 4-for-5 performance, while four other Wildcats had two hits.
In game two, Cowart was masterful for 7.0 complete innings to move to 4-0 on the season as the game was called after seven with the Wildcats ahead 11-0. Cowart scattered just two hits in his 7.0 scoreless innings while tying a career high with 10 strikeouts.
K-State jumped out with three runs in the first and plated runs in every inning to take a commanding win in game two. Dustin Rasco, in his first collegiate start, led the offense with three hits while five other Wildcats recorded two hits.
With hits in both games, Joe Roundy, who is also the Big 12’s leading hitter, had two hits in each game to extend his current hitting streak to a career-best 14 games, which is one shy of teammate Jared Goedert’s Big 12-best 15-game hitting streak earlier this season.
