The Shockers out-hit the Wildcats 14-4 on the night and got four hits from Matt Brown, while Jared Goedert had two of the Cats’ four hits.
Freshman Todd Vogel dropped to 1-1 on the season after surrendering four runs, three earned, on six hits through 2.0 innings. Wichita State’s Kris Johnson moved to 4-0 after tossing 5.0 innings and giving up just two hits.
After Wichita State scored three runs on four hits in the second, K-State answered with two runs in the third as Eli Rumler led off with a bunt single and then moved to second on a throwing error. Brett Scott then sacrificed Rumler over to third and reached on an error to allow Rumler to score. After Tyler Link moved Scott to third, Brandon Farr grounded out to second to score Scott and cut the lead to 3-2.
But, the Shockers answered with three more in the bottom half of the third, two of which were unearned, off starter Todd Vogel and reliever Brett Ames. Then, the Shockers added two more in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead before a sacrifice fly from Barrett Rice in the sixth cut the margin to 7-3.
Farr finished the night 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to a Big 12 season-best and career-long 17 games. That streak is also tied for the fifth-longest in K-State history.
