K-State Headed to Texas and Emporia Relays

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State will head in two different directions this weekend, as half of the team will head to Austin, Texas for the 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, April 6-9. The other half of the squad will head to Emporia for the Euler State Farm/ESU Relays, April 9.
Rewind: 2005 Texas Relays
Breanna Eveland registered a winning height of 13-07.25 to capture K-State’s lone event title at the 2005 Texas Relays.
Also competing for the Wildcats at the Texas Relays were Chaytan Hill, Wojciech Borysiewicz and Stelios Kapsalis. Hill finished second in section A’ of the triple jump at the 78th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The Kirby, Texas native skipped to an NCAA Midwest Regional qualifying distance of 43-07.25.
Borysiewicz finished third in section B’ of the men’s high jump with a height of 6-08.75. Kapsalis leaped to a sixth-place finish in section A’ of the men’s triple jump with a distance of 51-03.50. Eveland Wins UTEP Pole Vault Crown
Senior Breanna Eveland won the pole vault at the UTEP Springtime Invitational for the second straight year with a height of 13-11.25. Eveland registered a better height this season than in 2005, 13-09.25.
At the time in 2005, Eveland broke the K-State school record with the performance, but has since put the mark above 14 feet, 14-01.25. The First Time is the Sweetest
Senior Obi Ikwuakor and sophomore Bryce Bergman won their first career event titles during the UTEP Springtime Invitational on April 1. Ikwuakor won the women’s shot put title with a personal career-best distance of 44-03.50. The product of Arvada, Colo., surpassed her previous career-high by almost three inches, 44-00.75 at the UMKC Invitational on April 30, 2005.
Bergman won his first men’s pole vault title with a clearance of 16-00.75. The Baileyville, Kan., product registered his career best during the 2005 UTEP Springtime Invitational with a height of 16-06.75. Suggs to Enter Kansas Relays Hall of Fame
Former Kansas State thrower Pinkie Suggs is among the 2006 Kansas Relays Hall of Fame induction class, announced by Kansas Relays meet director Tim Weaver. Suggs will be inducted during a banquet on Saturday, April 22 at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Lawrence at 7 p.m.
Suggs is the most decorated female athlete in Kansas Relays history, winning four collegiate shot put and three discus champion watches, three high school shot put titles and two prep discus crowns. Her state record in the shot put has remained unequalled since 1982.
During her K-State career, Suggs was a five-time All-American and won four Big Eight titles. During the 1987 outdoor season, Suggs won the conference titles for the shot and discus.
In the K-State record books, Suggs still holds the record in the discus with an incredible toss of 194-01 at the 1987 Drake Relays. Suggs ranks third in the shot put with a mark of 55-06.50, also at the 1987 Drake Relays. She is also a member of the Drake Relays Hall of Fame. Skujyte, Eveland to Take Run at Decathlon Records
Former two-time Wildcat All-American and current assistant coach Austra Skujyte will attempt to break her own world record in the women’s decathlon on April 13-14 at the Missouri Combined Events in Columbia.
Joining Skujyte is senior Breanna Eveland and sophomore Marianne Schlachter. Eveland owns the national collegiate record, record for a North American athlete and K-State record in the event. Schlachter will be competing in her first decathlon.
In 2005, Skujyte became the first women’s decathlon champion on North American soil with a point total of 8,366 points.
Eveland tallied 6,821 points to finish second and was the only competitor to tally 1,000 points in a single discipline, pole vault (1,018). Lancaster, Eveland Ranked Among IAAF Elite
Senior Kyle Lancaster is ranked 28th and senior Breanna Eveland is ranked 42nd in the March 27th International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) world rankings. Lancaster moved up three spots from 31st after his second place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a clearance of 7-05.00. The Fort Scott, Kan., native finished the 2005 outdoor season ranked 35th in the world on Oct. 10.
Eveland fell one position from 41st after reaching the ranking with three clearances above 14 feet and earning 2006 NCAA All-American honors.
