Equestrian Travels to Pennsylvania for IHSA National Championship

K-State will be one of 18 teams competing for the English championship. In Western, 17 teams will be competing for the team title.
“This is the National Championship and competition will be tough,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We are very prepared to face such high caliber competition. I hope to see us succeed.”
The following English riders earned their spot to the IHSA show by placing first or second in their perspective classes at the Zone Championships, Senior Kristen Morrell in Walk-Trot Equitation, Sophomore Nicolle Harkness in Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation, Junior Stephanie Bell in Novice Equitation on the Flat, Junior Macie Ayers in Novice Equitation over fences, Freshman Dresden Sommer in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, Junior Gentry Horigan in Intermediate Equitation over fences, Whitney Snyder in Open Equitation on the Flat and Freshman Leslie Yates in open Equitation over fences.
In Western, Junior Heather Culwell in Beginner Western Horsemanship, Sophomore Sarah Coomes in Intermediate Western Horsemanship, Junior Michelle Schneider in Novice Western Horsemanship, Freshman Claire Leet in Advanced Western Horsemanship, Sophomore Lindsey Salsbury in Open Western Horsmanship and Junior Sara Weller in Open Reining Horsemanship.
Individually these K-State riders will be competing for Championships in these individual classes, Gina Remus in Beginner Western Horsemanship, Stephanie Bell in Novice Equitation over Fences, Sara Weller in Open Reining Horsemanship and Lianna Bodlack in Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation.
Sophomore Lindsey Salsbury received the most points in Reining and Horsemanship combined in Zone 9 this season. This feat allows her to compete for the AQHA High Point Western Rider competition this weekend. Lindsey will be competing against 22 of the best Western riders in the country for this prestigious award.
Junior Casey Finnell received the most points in the Flat and Fences categories this season in Zone 9 and will be competing against 30 top English riders for the USEF Cacchione Cup.
