
MANHATTAN, Kan. The rosters for the women’s heptathlon in the Nike Combined Events Challenge between the United States and Germany have been set. Competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 5 at R.V. Christian Track Complex.
The United States will be represented by Tacita Bass, Danielle McNaney, Lela Nelson and Reidun Wallin. The squad will be coached by John Turek. The German delegation is Marlen Buder, Julia Machtig, Annelie Schrader and Maren Schwerdtner.
Bass is a four-time NCAA All-American and a three-time SEC champion during her time at South Carolina. The product of Mobile, Ala., finished eighth in the heptathlon with 5,484 points at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
McNaney tallied a sixth-place finish at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 5,673 points. The native of Gardner, Kan., completed her eligibility at Liberty with an 11th place finish at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships with 5419 points.
Nelson finished fourth at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 5903 points. The 2005 graduate of Eastern Michigan captured the 2005 NCAA Outdoor title in the women’s heptathlon for the Eagles with 5878 points.
Wallin is a product of Western State (Colo.), registering a career-high of 5,580 points during her time at the school. The current resident of Alamosa, Colo., finished 10th at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 5439 points.
Machtig enters the competition for Germnay with a career- and season-best of 6,066 points. She is the only German heptathlete to enter the competition with over 6000 points. Schwerdtner has a season and personal-best total of 5865 points, while Schrader and Buder are at 5595 and 5555 respectively.
