Cyclones Outlast Wildcats, 64-61

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Ashley Sweat scored a career-high 25 points and Shalee Lehning recorded her fifth career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but Kansas State dropped a heart breaker to Iowa State 64-61 Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.
With the score tied 59-59, Ashley Sweat hit a short jumper at the 1:04 mark to put the Cats up by two.
Iowa State's Megan Ronhovde missed a jumper at the other end and fouled Shana Wheeler to put her at the line to shoot the one-and-one. Wheeler missed the front end and Ronhovde hit a three, giving the Cyclones their first lead of the game with 29 seconds left to go.
K-State (16-12, 4-11) committed a turnover on its last possession and the Cyclones' Lyndsey Medders hit two free throws to put Iowa State (21-7, 9-6) up by three. Claire Coggins' last-second three-point attempt rimmed off as the buzzer sounded.
After trading baskets early in the first half, the Wildcats built their lead to 14 after Lehning hit a three-pointer at the 11:21 mark. Iowa State closed the gap with a 15-7 run over the next seven minutes to pull within six. Ashley Sweat hit a jumper with two seconds left in the half to secure a 40-35 halftime lead for the Cats.
The Wildcats came out cold in the second half, starting 1-of-7 from the field before Claire Coggins and Sweat had back-to-back layups, stretching their lead to 46-39 at the 15:39 mark. K-State only connected on 1-of-6 attempts from the line in the second half and 6-of-16 for the game, which wouldn't be enough to hold off the Cyclones.
K-State will host Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m., for its final home appearance of the season.
