Wildcats Welcome Top Jumpers for High Jump

MANHATTAN, Kan. In additional to the standard slate of events scheduled for the Wildcat Invitational on Friday, Jan. 18th, K-State will be hosting an invitational high jump that will bring in some of the nation’s top male leapers. K-State’s Scott Sellers and six other competitors are scheduled to compete at 4 p.m., with each of the athletes having recorded seven-foot marks in their careers.
Sellers is the K-State record holder for both indoor and outdoor high jump, having obtained both marks during his sophomore campaign. The product of
Lamar Garrett, who has completed his indoor eligibility but will compete in outdoors, will jump against his training mate. Voted one of eight 2008 team captains, Garrett registered a personal best of 7-01.50 during the 2006 indoor season at the KSU Open. During the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon in December, Garrett ended at a height of 6-11.50, finishing second to Sellers’ NCAA automatic mark of 7-04.25.

Jesse Williams is a 2006 graduate from USC who set a then-personal best at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships when he cleared the bar at 7-07.25 to capture the crown. In 2007, he placed fourth at the US Outdoor Championships while finishing as the runner-up indoor. He will enter Friday’s event with a personal best of 7-07.75 set in
From the Division II ranks, Jim Dilling will jump in Ahearn Field House after having a stellar 2007 year. The 2007 Minnesota State University-Mankato graduate took the title at the 2007 USA Outdoor Championships with a height of 7-05.25. The victory came after Dilling earned his fourth Division II high jump title with a winning jump of 7-04.50. His personal best of 7-06.50 earned him the Drake Relays gold during his final outdoor season.
