The tie breaker is determined by compiling all the raw scores and dropping the lowest from each category.
Senior Whitney Snyder brought home MVP honors on the Flat, senior Jana Lechtenberg picked up her first MVP honor of her senior year in the Horsemanship category, and sophomore Alecia Zimbelman picked up her first as well in the Reining category.
In Horsemanship, senior Jana Lechtenberg led the squad by defeating Nicole McCoy, 72-63.5. Junior Mikaela Sundgren also picked up a big win by defeating Lindsey Tomko, 69-67.5, and Alyssa Freeman brought home a victory and defeated Lindsey Douglas, 72.5-67.
In the reining category, K-State was led by sophomore Alecia Zimbelman, who picked up a close win against Madelyn Mooney, 67.5-67. Junior’s Morgan Campbell and Kaylee Stout helped the Western team to a victory by picking up wins as well.
“I was proud of the girls today for pulling together for their first solid win,” said Casie Williamson, head Western coach. “We are glad to have some time off before our next competition so we can get back to basics and clean things up a bit. Overall, everyone rode extremely well and we are making less and less mistakes in the arena. Jana and Alecia were outstanding today. It was great for each of them to get a really solid ride underneath themselves and shine through."
In exhibition competition, the Wildcats had a solid day in both English and Western competition by defeating the Bears with an overall score of 9-3.
Senior Whitney Snyder gave the Wildcats two great rides in English competition, both on the Flat and over Fences. She defeated Heather Healy, 83-77, over Fences and Shelby White, 77-69, on the Flat. Snyder was the lone winner for
Other riders picking up wins on the flat were senior Katie Mellon and freshman Ellesse Tzinberg. Tzinberg competed in her first varsity competition at
“Today was a difficult day for us,” said Ashley Foster, Hunter Seat head coach. “We had some good individual rides but really must find out how to put things together as a team. Overall, we were inconsistent and sloppy. We need to be consistent and precise in order to win. We have over three weeks until our next competition, and will be working a lot on basics in order to return to riding like we did against Texas A & M.”
