Wildcats Open Outdoor Season

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Kansas State track and field team will make the transition to the great outdoors this weekend at the Tulsa Invitational. The Wildcats hit the road to open the outdoor season taking a strong contingency of throwers to the event along with a group of sprinters and middle distance runners.The invitational will be split over two days with the hammer throw being contested on Friday in Stillwater, Okla., before completing the competition on Saturday at Tulsa’s Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
K-State enters the weekend after Scott Sellers and Moritz Cleve earned All-America status at the NCAA Indoor Championship last week. Sellers won the second national title of his career while Cleve posted his first All-America performance. The 14 points the two combined to score for the Wildcats placed the men’s team in a tie for 16th place.

Sellers Sails to Second NCAA Title
Scott Sellers can now add two-time national champion to his rsum. The senior high jumper blew away the competition at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday to win the second national title of his career. He leapt passed the field with his jump of 7-04.50 at Gilliam Indoor Track and Field Stadium at Texas A&M.
Sellers was the only competitor to hit 7-02.25 clearing the height on his first attempt. He then cleared the height of 7-04.50 on his first attempt again. Sellers could not repeat his indoor school record as he failed all three attempts at 7-06.50, but his performance far outshined the field as 7-00.25 was second place. His leap of 7-04.50 also was a facility record for Gilliam Indoor Track and Field Stadium.
Cleve Climbs to First All-America Honor
Moritz Cleve was able to climb his way up the standings in Day 2 of competition of the NCAA Championship after struggling through the first four events of the heptathlon. The sophomore posted third and fourth place finishes over the final three events to move into fifth overall and earn his first All-America honor with a total of 5,657 points.
He opened the day finishing third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds. It was his second fastest time in the hurdles this season and earned him the most points in any of his events this weekend. Cleve followed the hurdles with a pole vault of 15-09.00 to finish fourth keeping his recent success in the event going. Two weeks ago at the Big 12 Conference Championship, Cleve vaulted a personal best of 15-11.00 passing his previous high by eight inches. He then closed the heptathlon with a solid third place in the 1,000 meters. His time of 2:45.43 was good enough to move him up the standings despite being a bit off his usual pace.
Cleve struggled out of the gates in Day 1 of competition finishing 10th in three of four events. His best performance on the first day came in the shot put finishing sixth to move into ninth heading into the final day.
