Wildcats Open Spring Season on Saturday
Jan 27, 2010 | Tennis
This will be the first meeting between K-State and Northern Iowa. The Wildcats will look to extend its season-opening win streak to six. Last season, Northern Iowa registered a 16-9 record and a 5-6 mark in the Missouri Valley.
Sunday morning's 10 a.m., meeting between K-State and Drake will be the 12th in the series and just the third against the Bulldogs in Des Moines. The Wildcats are 49-25 (.662) against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference, including a 7-4 record against Drake. Last season, K-State defeated the Bulldogs, 6-1, in Manhattan and extended its win streak to six against the Bulldogs.
K-State will look to get off to a strong start in both matches by winning the doubles point. Last season, when K-State captured the doubles point the Wildcats were 5-3. The Wildcats top doubles team entering the spring season is the combination of junior Antea Huljev and sophomore Nina Sertic. The duo has combined for a 7-5 record this season and is 9-11 over the last two seasons.
Following this weekend's action in Des Moines, Kansas State will return to Manhattan to face Iowa on Feb. 13. The match is set for an 11 a.m., start at Cottonwood Racquet Club and admission is free.
