MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following a season-opening four-show stretch in the south, the Kansas State equestrian team will kick off three consecutive home competitions this Friday, as they face Big 12 foe Baylor at Timbercreek Stables.
This will be the first-ever competition at the Wildcats’ new facility, which is located just four miles east of Manhattan. Timbercreek Stables features 18 stalls, 22 runs, Indoor and Outdoor arenas and two round pens and is considered one of the premier facilities among varsity equestrian teams in the nation.
Head coach Casie Lisabeth is not only eager to finally be competing in Manhattan, but to also show off K-State’s new home.
“We are so excited to kick off the home season and unveil our new facility to the public on October 15,” said Lisabeth. “The girls have been working really hard to prepare for our first home competition so we are anxious to see their hard work put to the test in our home arena.”
K-State will be facing a Baylor squad that is off to a 3-0 start. The Bears are coming off a two-day event that saw them defeat Delaware State, Miami (OH)/Ohio State and New Mexico State by a combined score of 29-15.
The Wildcats closed out their opening weekend with a record of 2-2, with a pair of wins against South Dakota State and SMU and a set of losses at the hands of Auburn and Georgia.
Both schools have been out of action since the third weekend of September.
In Western, Kansas State will be led by freshman Kelly Bovaird. The Tulsa, Okla. native started her career off on a perfect note, going 3-0 against riders from Auburn, Georgia and South Dakota State in Horsemanship. She is the only undefeated rider on the squad in all disciplines.
On the Hunter Seat side, the Cats will lean on sophomore Larissa Laffey and junior Stephanie Patterson. Both Laffey and Patterson have begun this season with identical records of 3-1in Equitation on the Flat, with all three of their wins coming over Auburn, South Dakota State and SMU riders.
The competition will begin at 10 a.m., on Friday at Timbercreek Stables. Admission is free to the public.
