Apr 13, 2010 | Tennis
K-State will face No. 43 Oklahoma at 11 a.m., and the Wildcats will finish the weekend on Sunday against No. 59 Oklahoma State at 12 p.m. Both matches will be contested at the Wamego Recreation Complex.
K-State (6-9, 3-4 Big 12) halted a five-match road skid and secured its first Big 12 road win since March 14, 2008, with a 5-2 decision at Missouri in the team's last outing. The Wildcats were led by the bottom portion of its singles lineup, as freshmen Karla Bonacic and Carmen Borau Ramos and sophomore Petra Chuda all picked up straight set victories. In the team's last four matches, the four through six positions in the lineup are a combined 11-1. K-State owns a record of 3-1 in those four matches.
The Wildcats have returned to form in doubles play, capturing the doubles' point in three straight matches. The tandem of Borau Ramos and Ana Gomez Aleman has won three straight doubles matches at the number three position. The duo is 4-3 in Big 12 action and 4-5 this spring.
Oklahoma (13-4, 3-3 Big 12) enters the weekend led by No. 88 Ana-Maria Constantinescu (9-6 this spring, 4-3 Big 12). The Sooners will look to shake off a pair of losses in their last two outings, a 6-1 defeat to Texas and a 4-3 setback to Texas A&M.
The Sooners own the series lead against K-State, 22-12. The Sooners have won three straight meetings in the series with K-State's last win over Oklahoma coming on April 27, 2006 at the Big 12 Championships.
Oklahoma State (8-7, 2-4 Big 12) has held the edge in the series with the Wildcats, 30-5, but K-State has won three of the last 10 meetings in the series. Six of the Cowgirls' last seven wins in the series have come by scores of 4-3. The Cowgirls have lost three straight matches and five of their last seven.
Following this weekend's action, Kansas State will conclude the 2010 regular season with home matches against No. 2 Baylor and Texas Tech. K-State will face Baylor at 12 p.m. on April 24 and Texas Tech on April 25 at 1 p.m.
