EXHIBITION – QUICK HITTERS
• Kansas State opens year three of the Bruce Weber era on Sunday at 2 pm, as the Wildcats play host to Division II foe Washburn (0-0) and alumnus Bob Chipman at Bramlage Coliseum in its lone exhibition game.
• Chipman is a 1973 graduate of K-State and helped the Wildcats to 42 wins and a pair of Big Eight titles. He averaged 5.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in his two-year career after transferring from Genesee CC.
• K-State is 55-18 (.753) all-time in exhibition play dating back to 1964, including 43-9 (.827) at home. The Wildcats are 37-9 (.804) at Bramlage Coliseum in exhibition play, including 15 consecutive wins dating back to 2004, which includes wins over the Ichabods in 2006 (94-90; 3 OTs), 2008 (81-57), 2010 (90-44) and 2012 (81-61). The four meetings with Washburn are the most against one team since K-State switched primarily to playing Division II teams in exhibition play in 2004, which includes Pittsburg State (three), Emporia State (two), Fort Hays State (two) and Newman (once).
• The last home setback in exhibition play came to the EA Sports All-Stars, 79-67, on Nov. 6, 2003. The last loss in an exhibition came during the team’s tour of Brazil in 2012 - a 77-75 loss to Tijuca on August 13, 2012.
• Last season, the Wildcats won their only exhibition game, 75-54, over Pittsburg State on Nov. 1, 2013. K-State shot 36.4 percent from the field, including just 17.4 percent from 3-point range, while holding PSU to 30.8 percent and 12.5 percent from long range.
• Current sophomore Nigel Johnson led five players in double figures vs. Pittsburg State with a team-high 15 points, including a 10-of-10 effort from the free throw line, and team-best nine rebounds. Senior Nino Williams and sophomore Marcus Foster each added 13 points.
• K-State won its last exhibition meeting with?Washburn, 81-61, on Oct. 30, 2012, as the Wildcats connected on 50.9 percent from the field while holding the Ichabods to 34.4 percent shooting. Only three current players - Nino Williams, Thomas Gipson and D.J. Johnson - saw action in the last meeting with Williams leading in scoring (14) and rebounding (9).
• K-State is 3-0 under Bruce Weber in exhibition play with wins over Washburn (81-61) and Emporia State (81-51) in 2012 and Pittsburg State.
• The Wildcats return nine lettermen in 2014-15, including starters Marcus Foster, Thomas Gipson and Wesley Iwundu, from a team that posted a 20-13 overall record and 10-8 mark in league play en route to their school-record fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
