MONTEREY, Calif. – The Kansas State men’s golf team sits in seventh place after two rounds of the Saint Mary’s Invitational at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Club on Monday. The Wildcats, who carded a 9-over par 585 on the day, were led by sophomore Matt Green, who is currently tied for eighth.
“Overall the team fought hard today,” said head coach Grant Robbins. “We are only three shots out of third, so we need a solid round tomorrow.”
Green, who missed all but two tournaments in 2013-14 as he was awarded a medical hardship the season, is at 2-under par 142 following the first two rounds. He enters Tuesday’s final round one shot away from fifth place and two shots out of fourth.
Sophomore Hank Simpson is currently tied for 26th at 3-over par 147, while Seth Smith is in a tie for 33rd at 4-over par 148.
San Diego’s Mathias Dahl leads the overall competition at 7-under par 137, while Saint Mary’s leads the team competition at 6-under par 570. The Wildcats are one shot behind sixth-place team Santa Clara and three shots away from a tie for fourth between Fresno State and Pacific.
The final round of the Saint Mary’s Invitational is slated to begin at 8 a.m. (PT) Tuesday morning. Live stats can be followed on www.birdiefire.com, while final results will be posted on www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the event.
