Beckler in Top-10 at Bill Ross Intercollegiate
Oct 12, 2015 | Men's Golf
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Kansas State freshman men’s golfer Andrew Beckler is tied for ninth place at 2-over par 146 after the first and second rounds of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,054 yards Milburn Golf & Country Club.
Playing in his first tournament, Beckler is one of three players the Wildcats sent to the event to play solely as individuals.
“This tournament is a good opportunity to get some guys on our team some extra rounds in,” K-State assistant coach Cullen Carstens said. “I thought Andrew did a great job of battling all day and was able to get a good score in the second round despite not hitting his best.”
Beckler carded a 4-over par 76 in his debut round as a Wildcat, firing back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6. The Topeka native bookended his second round with birdies, totaling five on the day and a 2-under par 70.
Just four strokes behind Beckler, freshman Roland Massimino is tied for 24th at 6-over par 148. He tallied three birdies in the first round on his way to a 2-over par 74 and notched four birdies in the second round for a 4-over par 76.
Junior Hank Simpson recorded a two-round total 14-over par 158 enter final-round play in a tie for 59th.
“I thought Roland did a good job of bouncing back in the afternoon as well after a rough third hole,” Carstens said. “We are looking forward to getting back after it tomorrow.”
Grant Bennett of Wichita State is atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under par 138. The Shockers lead the team competition at 9-over par 585, two strokes ahead of Gonzaga.
