
Trio Set For Competition at IAAF World Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Juniors Akela Jones and Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye, along with former Wildcat Erik Kynard, begin competition Friday at the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Championships in Beijing, China.
Jones will represent Barbados in the heptathlon, Otuonye represents Turks and Caicos in the long jump, while Kynard will represent the United States in the high jump.
Otuonye is coming off of an impressive result at the NACAC (North American Central American Caribbean) Championships, earning bronze in the long jump with a leap of 7.71m/25-03.50 (1.1 w). Jones also competed at the NACAC Championships, finishing seventh in the 100 meter hurdles final with a time of 13.08.
In recent competition, Kynard matched a personal best of 2.37m/7-09.25 to win the high jump at the U.S. Championships in June.
