Estill, Schultz Claim Titles at Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Junior Max Estill and freshman Nina Schultz both took home pentathlon titles at the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon in Ahearn Field House on Friday.Â
Estill won the men's pentathlon with a final score of 3,405 points, while Schultz, competing in her first collegiate pentathlon, posted a final score of 3,874 points.Â
"We accomplished what we hoped to accomplish in this meet and saw some good things," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto said about the meet. "There were a lot of things that were not necessarily bad, but we know that they could be a whole lot better. That is a real positive for us."
K-State opened the meet in fine fashion with quality marks from both the men and women in the 60 meter hurdles. Estill set a new personal best in the event with a time of 8.80 to finish in third place. On the women's side, Ariel Okorie and Schultz posted times of 8.59 and 8.67, respectively, to take first and second place. Okorie's mark ranks fifth on the school's all-time pentathlon list, while Schultz's mark was good for ninth on the list.Â
In the women's long jump, Okorie recorded another top-10 pentathlon mark, posting a leap of 5.78m/18-11.75 to tie for seventh placed with Gwen Wentland. Fellow freshman Lauren Taubert missed the top-10 list by just 11 centimeters, posting a mark of 5.56m/18-03 to take second in the event.Â
Freshman Morgan Coffman stole the show in the women's high jump, jumping 1.76m/5-09.25 to take first place in the event. The mark puts her in a tie for eighth place on the school's all-time pentathlon top 10. Estill also had a strong high jump, missing his personal best by three centimeters with a mark of 1.92m/6-03.50 to finish tied for second in the event.Â
Sophomore Simone Fassina led the way for the men in the shot put, posting a mark of 12.14m/39-10 to finish in second place in the event. Schultz went on to win the women's shot put, posting a mark of 11.96m/39-03, eight centimeters away from cracking the school's top-10.Â
On the track, Coffman took first place in the 800 meter run with a final time of 2:23.41. Overall, the K-State women took the top four spots¬ in the final event of the day. On the men's side, freshman Jasper Schiedel used a strong final lap to take claim first place in the 1,000 meter run with a mark of 2:54.68.Â
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday as the team hosts the K-State Winter Invitational. Field events kick off at 11 a.m., CT, while events on the track begin at 2 p.m. CT. More information on the meet can be found here.Â
