SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kansas State senior Connie Jaffrey was victorious on Tuesday afternoon, as she carded a 2-under par 70 during the final round to claim the individual title at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational held at the par-72, 6,450-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Jaffrey finished the invitational at 9-under par 207, which set a career best 54-hole score and was the second best 54-hole score in program history. Jaffrey tallied four birdies on the day, including a key birdie late in the round.
The win was Jaffrey's fourth of her career and second this season as she won the Marilyn Smith/ Sunflower Invitational last month.
"It was a great tournament win for Connie. She played great," said head coach Kristi Knight. "The conditions and wind were very different during each round. It was an impressive performance."
The Kilwinning, Scotland, native is the first Wildcat to have multiple tournament wins in a single season since Christine Boucher won three tournaments in 2003-04.
As a team, the Wildcats carded a 2-over par 290 during round three to finish the invitational in seventh place at 14-over par 878.
Freshman Reid Isaac fired a 3-under par 69 in the final round, which featured six birdies, to jump 27 spots to a tie for 21st place. Isaac finished with a 54-hole score of 4-over par 220.
"Reid had a great round today going 3-under," Knight said. "I am proud of the ladies. It is a good finish to the invitational."
Following Isaac and Jaffrey was freshman Niamh McSherry, who shot a 10-over par 226 to tie for 46th. Ella Adams carded a 16-over par 232 to tie for 61st, while Darby Deans finished in 68th at 20-over par 236.
Arkansas dominated the field by carding a 22-under par 842 to claim the team title by 18-strokes over a second-place tie between TCU and Texas A&M. Jaffrey edged out Alana Uriell of Arkansas and Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M by a single stroke as each carded an 8-under par 208.
K-State concludes the fall portion of its season, October 30-31, at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas Texas.
