Oct 03, 2017 | Cross Country
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams both earned spots in this week's USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, as the men's team earned a No. 14 ranking, while the women's team earned a No. 9 ranking, the best the teams have ranked in the same week in program history.
The women's team earned its ranking after placing eighth overall in a competitive Cowboy Jamboree Invitational, that saw junior Emma Wren lead the Wildcat squad with a 25th place finish and a personal best 21:57.8. The team placed only two points behind conference foe Oklahoma, totaling 186 points in the meet.
The men's team also saw an impressive effort, placing seventh overall at the Cowboy Jamboree with 155 points. Senior Colton Donahue paced the Wildcats with a 22nd place finish (25:21.8), as the whole men's team improved upon their results from two years ago.
The week four ranking marks the first time this year either squad has earned a ranking in the Midwest region, with the men earning their last ranking in week four of 2016, while the women's team earned their first Midwest regional ranking since week six of 2015. The only other time both teams appeared in the Midwest regional ranking in the same week was in week three of 2015, in which both teams ranked 15th.
The Wildcats will have to wait to put their ranking to the test, as they have a week off before traveling to Peoria, Illinois to compete in the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, October 13. The Bradley Pink Classic marks the last regular season competition for the Wildcats, as the team prepares for the Big 12 Championships on October 28 in Round Rock, Texas.
