Wildcats Take Ninth at Magnolia Invitational
Oct 03, 2017 | Women's Golf
WEST POINT, Mississippi – Kansas State junior women's golfer Chloe Weir carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday to jump nine spots up the leaderboard as the Wildcats finished in ninth at the Magnolia Invitational at the par-72, 6,320-yard Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Wildcats shot a 11-over par 299 in the final round and finished the tournament at 34-over par 898.
Weir recorded four birdies on the day – including back to back birdies on holes 15 and 16 – as she finished the tournament at 11-over par 227 to tie for 37th place.
"It was not a good result for us overall," said head coach Kristi Knight. "We played very streaky golf. We were able to make a few birdies but had way too many big numbers. I know the team will respond positively and move forward."
Senior Connie Jaffrey finished in a tie for 23rd place at 6-over par 222 following a 3-over par 75 in the final round. Freshman Reid Isaac tied for 34th place at 10-over par 226, while the freshmen duo of Niamh McSherry and Ella Adams carded a 13-over par 229 and 21-over par 237, respectively. McSherry tied for 41st, while Adams tied for 60th.
Ole Miss finished with a 54-hole score of 10-under par 854 to take home the team invitational title, seven strokes ahead of second place Memphis. The Rebels' Julia Johnson took home the individual title, winning on the second round of a playoff over Abby Herrman of Memphis after both finished at 7-under par 209.
K-State will be back in action Oct. 22-24, as the Wildcats travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
