K-State Men’s Team Holds Steady at No. 12 in Midwest Regional Poll

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's cross country team held steady with the number 12 ranking in this week's USTFCCCA Midwest Regional poll, after the team set a program-best Big 12 finish at the Big 12 Conference Championship on Saturday in Round Rock, Texas. This week's number 12 ranking marks the second consecutive for the Wildcats, tying a program-best regional ranking set in week five of this year.
The Wildcat men earned a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship as the team scored 142 points, marking the best K-State team performance at the Big 12 Championship in program history. It was the best finish since also placing fourth at the 1995 Big Eight Championships in Lawrence, Kansas, and the highest overall finish since placing second at the Big Eight Championships in 1992.
The historic performance was led by senior Colton Donahue who ran a team-best 24:41.4, finishing 23rd overall. The Wildcats top-five runners placed within 20 seconds of each other, as Lukas Koch, Bryan Zack, Jeff Bachman and Brett Bachman all finished under the 25-minute mark. "They did a good job, it was a very controlled effort and they left it all on the course and that is all you can hope for," Head Coach Ryun Godfrey said of the men's performance on Saturday.
This week's Midwest Regional ranking ties a program-best for the Wildcats, and a third consecutive ranking this season. The Wildcats ranked number 12 in week five and number 14 in week four this season, two 14th place rankings in 2016, and their first ranking in 2015, where the team placed 15th.
Also in the Midwest regional, Iowa State dethroned Oklahoma State for the number one ranking in the Midwest after taking the Big 12 Championship on Sunday. Six teams from the Big 12 made appearances in this week's regional rankings, as Iowa State and Texas both claimed number one spots in their respective region.
Next up, the K-State cross country teams travel to the NCAA Midwest Regionals, as they head to Ames, Iowa on November 10 to compete against the rest of the Midwest region. The women's 6k race is set to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the men's 10k race following at 11:45 a.m.
