K-State Strong on Day One of Wake Forest Invite

Cats finish 6-0 in doubles, 4-3 in singles
WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The K-State women's tennis team showed strong on the opening day of the Wake Forest Invite, including a 6-0 doubles record, at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Margot Decker and Carolina Costamagna won their first two matches as a tandem before withdrawing from competition. Decker and Costamagna defeated Madison Silver and Daniela Dankanych of Marshall, 8-4, and defeated Richmond's Klana Marshall and Lyndell Giffenig, 8-2.
The duo of Rosanna Maffei and Anna Turco went 2-0 in the B doubles bracket. Maffei and Turco defeated Wright State's Madison Riley and Jillian Milano, 8-6, and Winthrop's Megan Kauffman and Ellie Burns, 8-6. Maffei and Turco will take on Davidson's Megan Scholvinck and Alexa Abele Saturday.
Ines Mesquita and Maria Linares defeated Charlotte's Gabriela Gonzalez and Sasha Lee, 8-4, and Whitney and Pelayo of Wright State, 8-3. The pairing will faceoff with Jona Roka and Lea Owens of James Madison Saturday.
K-State split results in singles play, going 4-3 as a unit.
Maffei started off her weekend with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 victory over Erica Braschi of Elon in the A2 singles bracket. Maffei is now 2-1 in her young collegiate career and will faceoff with Liberty's Maria Medina Saturday.
Mesquita topped James Madison's Anna Makarova in the opening round of the B1 singles bracket 6-2, 6-3. Mesquita improves to 4-0 this season and will play Suzanne Zenoni of Elon Saturday.
Costamagna and Linares each edged out victories in three sets, advancing in the B2 singles bracket.
Costamagna defeated Virginia's Camille Favero 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The Argentinian moves to 3-1 this season in singles play and will faceoff with Raven Neely of Louisville Saturday.
Linares earned her first victory of her collegiate career with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Charlotte's Sasha Lee. The product of Maracay, Venezuela, will oppose Appalachian State's Teodora Sevo.
Turco dropped the first match of her Wildcat career in three sets, falling to Winthrop's Alisa Solovyeva 4-6, 6-3, 4-6 in the A1 singles bracket. After winning a co-championship at the Mizzou Invite, Turco falls to 3-1 and will face Emily Dunbar of Richmond.
Meghan King fell to Alexa Webb of Western Carolina in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 4-6 in the G2 singles bracket. The Overland Park, Kansas, native drops to 1-3 in singles play this season and will face Sandra Anglesjo of Appalachian State Saturday.
Decker fell in the opening round of the A1 singles bracket to Virginia's Teodora Radosavijevic 1-6, 4-6. Decker falls to 1-2 in her K-State career.
