
Cats Pick Up Four Wins on Day 2 of Kitty Harrison Invitational

K-State finishes 3-2 in singles, 1-2 in doubles Saturday
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The K-State women's tennis team collected three singles victories along with a doubles win Saturday against William & Mary, Michigan and Duke at the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the University of North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Cats faced Michigan and Duke in singles play, finishing 3-2 on the day.
Freshman Margot Decker built on her upset win on Friday with a three-set victory over Alex Najarian of Michigan, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10). Decker improves to 6-3 in her K-State career.
After recording just her second loss of the season, sophomore Ines Mesquita bounced back with a victory over Mira Ruder-Hook, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). The Portuguese sophomore has improved to 10-2 in singles play.
Freshman Maria Linares responded to a three-set loss on Friday by topping Kara Hall of Michigan, 6-3, 6-2. Linares is now 6-2 this season.
Senior Carolina Costamagna fell to Lera Patiuk of Michigan, 3-6, 7-6(5), 0-1 (9-11). Costamagna drops to 6-6 this season.
Sophomore Meghan King was defeated by Ema Laxic of Duke, 6-0, 6-1. King falls to 3-6 this season in singles play.
In the Cats' final doubles play of the fall season, they finished 1-2 against William & Mary.
Linares and freshman Anna Turco defeated Lauren Goodman and Cecily Wuenscher of William & Mary, 8-6.
Decker and Costamagna were topped by the Griffins' Clara Tanielian and Vitoria Okuyama, 6-8. King and Mesquita fell to Natalia Perry and Olivia Thaler, 6-8.
K-State will finish its fall collegiate season on Sunday in singles play against Eastern Carolina at 10 a.m. CT. Fans can follow results live through the official K-State women's tennis Twitter account @KStateTEN.
