SE: Sharon Snyder Joins NCAA Head Coaches' Wives in Hurricane Relief Effort
Nov 08, 2017 | Sports Extra
Sharon Snyder, wife of K-State head coach Bill Snyder, knows K-State fans will step up for a worthy cause. She's seen it many times over the many years, including earlier this fall when 46,000 pounds of items were donated for hurricane relief in Texas.
Now, she hopes Wildcat fans will answer the call again. Sharon Snyder joined forces with more than 20 NCAA college football coaches' wives from across the country to help raise money for victims of recent natural disasters.
The effort, titled "Giving Beyond the Game," includes an online auction for autographed football helmets from each participating university, as well as the opportunity to donate money straight to the initiative.
The bidding for each helmet starts at $250 and will close on November 15 at 11:59 p.m. While Snyder said she has not set a goal for the amount she hopes the K-State helmet goes for, she's confident "K-Staters will step up."
"It's for a worthy cause, of course. Three different huge events, like the hurricane disasters, are certainly worthy of our notice. I know they'll step up," she said. "We have great fans, very generous fans and compassionate fans."
Kelsey Patterson, married to TCU head coach and K-State alum Gary Patterson, started the fundraising effort as a response to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. She recruited head coaches' wives all over the United States, including Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, and Stanford, to name a few.
Specifically, "Giving Beyond the Game" is raising funds for the Houston Food Bank, Texas A&M Veterinary Medicine Response Team, Feeding South Florida, and International Medical Corps.
"To see such tragedy happen to so many people is a little bit overwhelming. Three of them is really indescribable," Snyder said. "I just wanted to be able to help in some way and I thought this was a wonderful idea."
