NORMAN, Okla. -- Kansas State could not shake a poor night shooting the basketball, as Oklahoma earned a season split with an 81-51 win before 10,181 fans at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday.
The Wildcats (17-12, 6-10 Big 12) connected on just 25 percent (14-of-56) from the field, including 24.2 percent (8-of-33) in the first half. It was the sixth-lowest field goal percentage in school history and the lowest since hitting on just 23.4 percent (11-of-47) in a home game against Nebraska on Jan. 11, 2006.
Oklahoma (10-18, 4-12 Big 12) led from nearly start to finish, breaking open a competitive contest with an 8-3 spurt in the first two minutes of the second half to take a 41-23 advantage. K-State was able to close to within 55-43 on a layup by senior forward D.J. Johnson with 9:56 remaining. However, the Sooners left no room for a comeback with 12 straight points over a nearly 4-minute span to lead 72-46 with 4:25 to play.
Only one Wildcat – redshirt freshman Isaiah Maurice – registered double figures with a team-high 11 points on 4-of-7 field goals, while Johnson added 9 points and a team-tying 8 rebounds. Sophomore Barry Brown tied Jacob Pullen’s single-season steals record (67; 2009-10) with 2 steals on the day.
Junior forward Khadeem Lattin led the way for the Sooners with game-highs in both scoring (17) and rebounding (10) to go with 3 blocked shots, while sophomore guard Rashard Odomes added 16 points.
Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger, who earned 81 victories as K-State’s coach from 1986-90, reached a milestone coaching mark with the victory, earning his 600th career win, including his 121st with the Sooners.
