Rigler Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After throwing Kansas State’s first no-hitter since 1991, senior Parker Rigler was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 5, the conference office announced Monday.
The left-handed Edmond, Oklahoma, native threw the ninth no-hitter in K-State program history Sunday in a 14-0 decision over Eastern Illinois. Rigler struck out six EIU hitters, walked two and threw 103 pitches en route to his second win of the season.
Rigler, a transfer from Cowley College, threw K-State’s first no-hitter since Chris Hmielewski’s five-inning no-hitter of Augustana in 1991.
In three starts this year, Rigler is 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA and leads the Wildcats with 15 strikeouts.
The complete-game victory was Rigler’s second of his career and it was the first no-hitter and first shutout in the Big 12 this season.
The weekly honor is the second of Rigler’s career after claiming Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in 2016 following his first career complete game at Oklahoma.
The conference pitcher of the week award is the program’s first since Nate Griep was named pitcher of the week in back-to-back weeks in 2015. K-State has now received weekly recognition from the Big 12 each of the past seven seasons.
K-State (9-2) looks to continue its best start to a season since 2011 as it welcomes Northwestern State to Tointon Family Stadium Tuesday for a two-game series. First pitch of both games with the Demons is slated for 3 p.m.
