
K-State Soccer Adds Malsy for Upcoming Season

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State women’s soccer head coach Mike Dibbini announced on Monday the addition of sophomore goalkeeper Emma Malsy for the upcoming 2017 season.
Malsy joins an incoming freshmen class of 12 student-athletes that will compete for the program in its second season. The incoming freshmen for 2017 are: Christina Baxter, (Papillion, Nebraska), Claire Calcaterra (Santa Margarita, California), Karisma Carmichael (Newbury Park, California), Hannah Davis (Lincoln, Nebraska), Mikayla Edwards (Huntington Beach, California), Brookelynn Entz (Newton, Kansas), Avery Green (Maize, Kansas), Kami Haiber (La Habra, California), Leah Kellogg (Los Alamitos, California), Shelby Lierz (Overland Park, Kansas), Brooke Ramos (Waipahu, Hawaii) and Maddie Souder (Lee’s Summit, Missouri).
Malsy comes to K-State following a freshman season at Arizona State in 2016. The product of Westminster, California, played in and started nine games in net for the Sun Devils and carded 824:14 minutes of action. She tallied an overall record of 3-4-1, including a 1-3-1 mark in Pac 12 matches.
Malsy finished with a 1.42 goals against average for Arizona State with 13 total goals allowed, while also pocketing consecutive shutouts against Northern Illinois and Cal State Fullerton. She finished her debut season with 29 saves and a save percentage of .690.
“We are excited to add experience and depth to our backline,” said Dibbini. “Emma brings great competitive collegiate experience to our young team. She also brings a presence with range in the goal. She has the ability to challenge and compete right away.”
Prior to her time in Tempe, Malsy was a four-year starting goalkeeper and team captain for Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, California. She earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 5 distinction in 2016 and led her team to CIF appearances all four years, including a berth in the quarterfinals in 2014.
Malsy also played for the Southern California Blues club team, where she helped the program win three championships: 2015 Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) 2014-15 Playoffs in Seattle, Washington; 2014 Surf College Cup and the 2014 ECNL 2013-14 Playoffs in Seattle, Washington.
In the program’s first season in 2016, K-State finished with a record of 4-9-3 and registered 16 goals and 11 assists for a total of 43 points. The Wildcats were led in scoring by forward Tatum Wagner with three goals and four assists for 10 points and midfielder Laramie Hall with three goals and three assists for nine points.
Kansas State will play eight home matches, including four matches in Big 12 play, in the 2017 season.
