Mesquita to Play for Team Portugal in World University Games

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s tennis freshman Ines Mesquita has been selected to represent Portugal in the 2017 Summer World University Games, as announced by the International University Sports Federations (FISU).
The 29th World University Games, known as the Universiade, will be held August 19-30 in Chinese Taipei. The Summer Universiade, which occurs every two years, is modeled after the Olympic Games for students who are currently registered at colleges or universities worldwide. In 2015, 170 countries competed in the 28th edition in South Korea.
The tennis competition will take place August 21-29 with each country allowed up to four participants per gender. The tournament’s field of 64 will be drawn prior the Games.
The Lourinhã, Portugal, native posted a winning singles record (11-10) and doubles record (12-10) during her first spring season for the Wildcats. Mesquita led the team with four singles victories during Big 12 play and was named Big 12 Player of the Week on February 21.
K-State finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 12-15 (2-7 Big 12) and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Championship for the fifth consecutive season.
