Seven Current/Former Wildcats to Compete in IAAF World Championships

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State Wildcats will be well represented in the 2017 IAAF World Championships that are set to begin this week in London, England, as seven current and former K-State track and field athletes are scheduled to compete between August 4-13.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State Wildcats will be well represented in the 2017 IAAF World Championships that are set to begin this week in London, England, as seven current and former K-State track and field athletes are scheduled to compete between August 4-13.
Among the athletes competing are current K-State student-athlete Shadae Lawrence (discus), who will represent team Jamaica. A rising junior, she is the reigning NCAA Outdoor discus champion, and is coming off an impressive outdoor season. Lawrence will compete in discus beginning with the preliminary round on August 11, with finals starting on August 13.
K-State will also be represented by several former athletes including Erik Kynard, Jr. (high jump), Alyx Treasure (high jump), Balazs Baji (110m hurdles), Jeffrey Julmis (110m hurdles), Ifeanyi Otuonye (200m) and Kimberly Williamson (high jump).
Kynard will take part in his fourth IAAF World Championships representing team USA, after finishing fifth in 2013 and eighth in 2015. More recently, Kynard placed sixth overall in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and currently serves as an assistant coach for the K-State track and field team. Competition begins for Kynard on August 11, with finals slated for August 13.
Baji and Julmis will represent team Hungary and Haiti, respectively, in the 110m hurdles that are scheduled to begin preliminary rounds on August 6 with finals scheduled for August 7. Baji will compete in his fourth IAAF World Championships after qualifying for the semi-final rounds in 2013 and 2015.
Treasure, a 2015 K-State graduate, will compete in her first IAAF World Championships this week. Treasure will represent her native team Canada, after finishing 17th in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Williamson, the current Jamaican National Champion and 2016 NCAA Outdoor Champion, will also participate in the women’s high jump, which is scheduled to begin August 10, with the finals beginning on August 12.
