
Maffei Advances, Linares Falls to Former World No. 19

STILLWATER, Okla. - In her first action with the K-State women's tennis program, Rosanna Maffei advanced to the second qualifying round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) professional tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center Sunday.
Maffei defeated Tulsa's Mahitha Dadi Reddy, 6-1, 6-3, earning the first victory of her collegiate career.
It took the former world No. 19 ranked singles player, Alona Bodarenko, three sets to defeat Maria Linares, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 3-6, in the first qualifying round. The match was Linares' Wildcat debut.
Bodarenko, the doubles champion of the 2008 Australian Open out of Ukraine, had reached heights of a No. 11 doubles ranking in the world in 2008, including five straight years of being ranked in the top 40, according to WTAtennis.com.
Maffei will face off with Texas Tech's Felicity Maltby on Monday starting at 10 a.m. CT at the $25,000 ITF event in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Live tweeting can be followed through @KStateTEN.
