Jan 31, 2018 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Oklahoma – After a strong opening quarter, Kansas State struggled in the second and third quarters, as Oklahoma held back the Wildcats with a 68-49 win at the Lloyd Noble Center. Kansas State has lost 11 straight games at Oklahoma.

Kansas State (12-10, 4-7 Big 12) was led by junior guard Kayla Goth with 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Kali Jones came off the bench to contribute four points, a career-high 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Oklahoma (11-11, 6-5) was paced by senior Vionise Pierre-Louis with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds.

K-State used an 8-0 run midway through the first quarter to build a 10-6 lead. Kaylee Page buried a 3-pointer to start the run. Cymone Goodrich then took a long rebound the length of the floor for a 3-point play in transition. Peyton Williams capped the run with a midrange jumper from the wing.

The Wildcats were held to two points in the final 3:50 of the first quarter, but the K-State defense held Oklahoma to 4-of-20 shooting in the opening quarter, including a 1-of-13 stretch to end the quarter, to hold a 12-10 lead over the Sooners.

K-State's offense hit a wall in the second quarter, as the Wildcats shot 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from the floor in the frame. Oklahoma capitalized on the sluggish K-State offense with a 15-5 run to end the quarter and outscore the Wildcats, 22-13, to take a 32-25 lead into halftime.

For the fourth time in the last five games, K-State struggled on offense in a third quarter. The Wildcats started the quarter 1-of-10 from the field, as Oklahoma built a 45-30 lead with 4:08 remaining in the third stanza.

K-State would close to within 10, 45-35, but finished the third quarter by shooting 3-of-15 from the field, as the Sooners outscored K-State 19-10.

The Wildcats continued to struggle from the field in the fourth quarter, finish the frame by shooting 6-of-18 from the floor. K-State was able to close to within 13, 53-40, with 8:24 remaining but a 13-0 run from the Sooners sealed the game.

K-State finished the game shooting 30.6 percent (19-of-62) including a chilling 27.3 percent in the second half. Oklahoma tallied a 36.5 percent effort (23-of-63) but were bolstered by a 58.3 percent performance in the second quarter.

Oklahoma tallied a 51-35 advantage on the boards, resulting in an 18-11 edge in second chance points.
