
K-State Finishes Ninth at Steelwood Collegiate Invitational

LOXLEY, Ala. – The Kansas State men's golf team dropped three spots during Sunday's final round of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, finishing in ninth place at the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country Club. The Wildcats, who carded a 14-over par 302 in the final round of the fall, finished with a 54-hole score of 25-over par 889.
Junior Ben Fernandez led K-State throughout the weekend, shooting an even-par 216 to tie for seventh. The Southlake, Texas, native carded a 1-over par 73 on Sunday.
Senior Roland Massimino tallied a consistent tournament, shooting a 1-over par 73 on all three days, and collectively shooting a 3-over par 219 for the tournament. Freshman Will Hopkins, who competed as an individual, finished at 6-over par 222 to tie for 31st.
Junior Jacob Eklund tied for 38th with a 7-over par 223. Sophomore Kyle Vance shot a 16-over par 232 to tie for 59th, while senior Jeremy Gandon finished behind Vance in 62nd place at 17-over par 233.
Senior JC Campbell, who competed as an individual, was disqualified from the round three for signing an incorrect scorecard.
After leading the tournament all weekend, Wake Forest finished atop the leaderboard at 20-under par 844, 16 strokes ahead of second-place Mississippi State. Wake Forest's Eric Bae won the individual medal, shooting a 9-under par 207.
K-State will return to the course for the spring season, February 23-24 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida.
