Feb 16, 2018 | Soccer
K-State soccer assistant coach Jessica Smith - a Kansas record-setting goal scorer as a prep player at Wichita Southeast High School and former player and coach at the University of Kansas - is among 10 sports figures, one team, sports organization and media member, elected to the 2018 class of the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced Friday.
Smith, who scored 128 goals while earning All-City honors across four seasons during her high school career, was named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year and a High School All-America First Team selection before playing at KU. As a player at Kansas, Smith was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree, then later as a coach helped her alma mater to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths. In 2012, Smith became a charter member of the Wichita Southeast Hall of Fame. Smith has assisted K-State head coach Mike Dibbini in each of the program's first two seasons.
Other 2018 honorees include Bill Faflick, Bill and Shirley Hall, Gregg Marshall, Dwane Martin, Paul Miller, Mike Pelfrey, LaVerne Smith, Vic Trilli, Steve Woodberry and Ted Woodward. The 2012-13 Wichita State Final Four men's basketball team and the Wichita Swim Club are the team and organization inductees.
The Wichita Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at Hillside Christian Church on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Admission to the event is free. Full bios on the inductees and more info about the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame and Museum can be found at wichitahof.com.
