Eight Wildcats to Compete in USA Individual Tournament
Feb 09, 2018 | Men's Golf
The K-State men's golf team will send eight players to Mobile, Alabama, on Monday and Tuesday to compete as individuals in the USA Individual Tournament, hosted by South Alabama, at the par-71, 7,158-yard Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course. The 54-hole event will begin at 8 a.m., both days.
Used as a tune up for the spring season, the Wildcats will send JC Campbell, Matthieu Caron, Jacob Eklund, Trent Evans, Ben Fernandez, Jeremy Gandon, Roland Massimino and Kyle Vance to Alabama.
"The guys are looking forward to competing this weekend in Mobile," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Our first two team events are in the southeast, and this will help provide a similar look in terms of the type of grasses and conditions we should see later on.
"We have had some good practices so far, but this will be a great opportunity for us to get some competition under our belt before we open the spring at Florida State."
Fernandez, a sophomore, recorded a team-best stroke average of 72.75 in the fall. He captured two top-20 finishes with a season-best score of 1-under par 212 to tie for 11th place at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Eklund had the second-best stroke average during the fall at 73.75, which included one top-20 finish coming at the Badger Invitational by carding 2-under par 214. Gandon tied for 11th place with his season-best score of 1-under par 212 at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Massimino and Campbell, both juniors, had their best fall finish at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate. Massimino carded an even-par 216 to tie for fourth place, while Campbell tied for eighth by recording a 4-over par 220.
