K-State looks for its first win in team history vs. Texas

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's tennis team is set to host a Sunday doubleheader against the ITA's 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns at 11 a.m. and the Missouri State Bears at 4 p.m. at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

The Wildcats (10-3, 1-0 Big 12) are fresh off their third ranked win of the year, which came vs. No. 28 Baylor, 4-3, marking their first win over the Bears since 2011. K-State opens conference play with a win for the first time in four seasons, when it beat West Virginia, 4-3, on March 14, 2014. The Cats have notched a victory in nine of their last 11 contests.

K-State was swept the last time it met up with the Longhorns, 0-4, in Austin, Texas, on April 23, 2017. The Cats have never beaten the Longhorns in team history, going 0-27 overall. K-State defeated the Bears of Missouri State at home in its last matchup, 7-0, on February 3, 2017, holding a 16-3 record all-time.

The Longhorns (9-4) come into Manhattan riding a four-match winning streak with three of their wins coming against the nation's top 37-ranked teams. Texas boasts four of the nation's top 91 singles players, including the No. 1 player, sophomore Bianca Turati, who is 20-2 this season. The Longhorns also claim the nation's No. 44 ranked doubles tandem, Petra Granic and Bojana Markovic, who open spring play 4-1. Texas will face Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, on Saturday before coming to Manhattan, Kansas, on Sunday.

Missouri State (4-3) has lost back-to-back matches most recently against UMKC, a team the Wildcats swept, 7-0, in January.

In singles play, K-State is 45-27 (.625) in the dual match season.

Freshman Margot Decker played a pivotal role in K-State's 4-3 win on Tuesday.
