
Jaffrey Tied for Fifth, K-State in 12th After Day One

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey continued the solid start to her spring campaign on Monday as she is tied for fifth place through the first two rounds of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the par-72, 6,519-yard Sewailo Golf Club.
Jaffrey, who is at 3-under par 141, led the Wildcats to a 36-hole score of 21-over par 591 to reside in 12th place.
Jaffrey carded a strong 2-under par 70 in round one followed by another solid score in the afternoon at 1-under par 71. She enters Tuesday's final round one stroke shy of a tie for third as she is in search of her 10th career top-five finish."
"Connie played very well – steady and solid," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She hit a lot of good shots, but more importantly she stayed calm when she hit a poor shot."
The Wildcats got off to a slow start as they carded a 12-over par 300 in round one. However, K-State shot a 9-over par 297 in round two to improve three spots on the leaderboard.
"As a team we struggled," Knight said, whose team is three shots away from the top 10. "We were better in round two. We have an opportunity to finish strong tomorrow."
Niamh McSherry is at 4-over par 148 and is tied for 36th place, while Ella Adams is at 10-over par 154 to sit in a tie for 64th. Reid Isaac is tied for 73rd place at 12-over par 156, which featured a 10-stroke improvement from the first round to the second. Darby Deans carded a 15-over par 159 and is tied for 84th place.
UCLA sits atop the leaderboard after carding a sizzling 14-under par 562. The Bruins hold a 10-stroke lead over second place Arizona. The UCLA duo of Lilia Vu and Mariel Galdiano hold the top two individual scores with an 11-under par 133 and a 6-under par 138, respectively.
The Arizona Wildcat Invitational will conclude Tuesday with an 8 a.m. (MT) shotgun start time. Live results can be followed no www.golfstat.com.
