Jaffrey Paces Cats on Day One of Big 12 Championship

Apr 20, 2018 | Women's Golf

DALLAS, Texas – Kansas State senior Connie Jaffrey currently stands in 14th place as she carded a 5-over par 149 during the first two rounds of play of the Big 12 Championship at the par-72, 6,215-yard Dallas Athletic Club.

The Wildcats are at 39-over par 615 going into Sunday's final round as rain in Saturday's forecast has changed the schedule of the championship. K-State is in seventh place entering the final round.

During round one, Jaffrey shot a 3-over par 75, but thanks to a strong front nine in the second round, the Kilwinning, Scotland native saw a one-stroke improvement at 2-over par 74.

"We started fairly well this morning but unfortunately lost quite a few shots on a stretch of holes late in the round," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We never got anything going. I am proud of the effort and how they carried themselves. We finished round two in a positive way."

Following Jaffrey was freshman Ella Adams, who had a solid day of golf by carding an 8-over par 152 to stand in a tie for 22nd. Following Adams was Niamh McSherry at 12-over par 156 to sit in a tie for 33rd. Rounding out the Cats was the freshman duo of Reid Isaac and Darby Deans, who carded a 20-over par 164 and 21-over par 165 to stand in ties for 41st and 43rd, respectively.

Texas tops the leaderboard after carding an 11-over par 587. The Longhorns currently hold a one-stroke lead over second-place Baylor. Emilee Hoffman of Texas is in first on the individual leaderboard after carding an impressive 3-under par 141.

Due to a schedule change because of expected inclement weather, the Big 12 Championship will conclude Sunday with an 8 a.m., start time. Live results can be followed at www.big12sports.com and results will be available at www.kstatesports.com at the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday.
