Visavapattamawan Leads Wildcats on Day One in Hawai’i

LIHUE, Hawai'i – Kansas State sophomore women's golfer Keen Visavapattamawan posted a first-round score of even-par 72 on Monday to lead the Wildcats during the first round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational held at the par-72, 6,058-yard Ocean Course at Hokuala.
As a team, the Wildcats are in sixth place following a round of 10-over par 298, only six shots behind a tie atop the leaderboard between BYU and No. 50 Eastern Michigan.
"Overall, it was not a bad day. We played the tough stretch really well, but we just had one bad hole that cost us," head coach Stew Burke said. "The greens and the wind are the biggest defense of this course, and they certainly were challenging for our group today. I am really happy for Keen – she battled back really well and managed to hold it together to close out a strong round. Our goal tomorrow is to have a couple players under par and find that fourth score, which seems to be elusive this fall."
A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Visavapattamawan enters Tuesday's second round in a tie for eighth place as she was one of only 11 golfers in the 81-player field to shoot even par or better in the first round. She tallied four birdies on the day to offset her four bogeys.
Junior Nanami Nakashima and freshman Amy Wang are two shots back of Visavapattamawan and tied for 16th place following first-round totals of 2-over par 74. Nakashima, a native of Kani, Japan, was 5-over par through 10 holes, but she battled back with a clean final eight holes with three birdies.
Junior Kelsey Chen shot a 6-over par 78 on Monday as she enters the second round in a tie for 42nd place. Chen is one shot ahead of freshman Mia Ingham, who is tied for 53rd place.
Appalachian State's Zoe Duval holds the individual lead after a first-round score of 3-under par 69.
The second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (HT) on Tuesday. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
