MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State sophomore Will Brennan was named All-Big 12 First Team and junior Drew Mount earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, as the conference announced its annual award winners Tuesday.
Brennan, a native of Stilwell, Kansas, collects his initial first-team honor after being named All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team in 2017. He is the 16th all-conference first-team selection under 15-year head coach Brad Hill.
A junior-college transfer from De Anza College, Mount tallies his first all-conference nod following his first season at K-State.
At the plate, Brennan led K-State in batting average, on-base percentage, hit and doubles. His .359 average was fourth-highest in the Big 12 during the regular season while he ranked second with 79 base hits. Additionally, Brennan was the toughest player in the league to strike out, striking out just 11 times in 220 at-bats (20.0 at-bats per strikeout).
Brennan, who was selected as a two-way utility player, also appeared on the mound nine times for the Wildcats, including five weekend starts. Over the last month as a regular pitcher, the lefty posted a 2-1 record with a 3.20 ERA to go with 25 strikeouts and six walks while also picking up his first save.
Mount was K-State's leader in home runs (9), triples (7), runs batted in (47), stolen bases (21) and slugging percentage (.538). Three times the junior outfielder was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, becoming the first player in league history to do so.
Mount's seven triples were tops in the conference and the most by a Wildcat since 1997 (Heath Schesser, 8). The Cats' cleanup hitter finished the regular season in the league's top 10 in RBI and steals.
The All-Big 12 teams and awards are voted on by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
K-State completed the 2018 season with a 23-31 record (5-19 Big 12).
